Real Madrid ‘insulted’ Liverpool over Alexander-Arnold, says Neville – while Slot supports the defender
Gary Neville said Real Madrid “believe they can get what they want” and has “insulted” Liverpool over Trent Alexander-Arnold.
It is widely reported that reigning Spanish and European champions Madrid have made a bid for Alexander Arnold, who joined the Reds’ academy in 2004 but is out of contract at the end of the season.
“The bid is a bad time for him,” former Manchester United captain Neville told Sky Sports after Alexander-Arnold’s poor performance in his team 2-2 draw at home against the Red Devils in the Premier League on Sunday.
“When you have that, you go into a big game and you’re a local, it’s not going to be easy with all the noise. Real Madrid is a damn good beast.
“I found it an insult to Real Madrid to behave like that. They act like that sometimes and think they can get what they want.”

Slot: Alexander-Arnold “didn’t have the best game”
United who has arrived 13 places and 23 points behind the championship leaderconcentrated most of his attacks on right-back Alexander-Arnold’s cross and scored both goals from that side.
The 26-year-old England international was replaced by Conor Bradley four minutes after Amad Diallo equalized with United’s second goal.
“Trent played good games for this club for the most part, but there were games where he wasn’t at his best,” said Liverpool coach Arne Slot.
“Today wasn’t his best game, but that was probably due to (United). It’s also because of Bruno Fernandes, who is a very, very good player and played well.
“Daniel, tell me what the problem was… it was just waffle” 😨

“(Diogo) Dalot was a threat on the left. It is not always easy to prevent them from getting into dangerous situations.
“Especially in the first half, Ryan (Gravenberch) wasn’t close enough to (Alexander-Arnold) at times, so sometimes it became a 2-on-1 situation. I would put it more on the quality of Dalot and Bruno Fernandes than Trent.”
Madrid “takes the joke”
Former Three Lions right-back Neville said the speculation “wouldn’t have been helpful” for Alexander-Arnold. “Liverpool are a club of enormous importance and they will never sell him for £20m in January,” he added.
“You take it a bit. I can imagine that this unsettled him. You can imagine his family and his agent all saying, ‘What’s going on, Trent?'”
