Rangers goalkeeper and vice-captain Jack Butland will miss Thursday’s Old Firm game against Celtic after being taken to hospital, the club have confirmed.

It has been revealed that the 31-year-old former Stoke City and Crystal Palace goalkeeper suffered an internal bleeding on his leg which required medical attention.

Butland has now been discharged from hospital but will miss the game against Celtic at Ibrox.

Captain James Tavernier will also miss out due to injury, while right-back Neraysho Kasanwirjo and defender Leon Balogun are also expected to miss out.

“We will lose Tavernier. At the end of the game he was injured. “He has undergone a scan and found that he has a minor injury and will be out for a few weeks,” said manager Philippe Clement.

The Rangers have had a disappointing season so far. The 55-time Scottish champions are 14 points behind leaders Celtic and have failed to win either of their last two games.

Clement’s side fared slightly better in the Europa League this season, winning three, drawing two and losing one of their six games, leaving them eighth in the 36-team table.
