The Vanderpump Rules alum, 30, reflected on a powerful December 2018 Instagram Post from Wednesday, December 18, in which she reflects on her experiences in a relationship with Kennedy, 32. “I stand by what I wrote here” Rachel emphasized alongside the resurfaced post in which she defended herself against criticism for staying James at the time.
“Being in an abusive relationship is confusing because you believe in your significant other’s potential and can’t understand how someone who says they love you can intentionally hurt you,” she wrote.
“Bad times can be rare, it is easy to downplay the abuse and believe the person is capable of change.” Rachel She first addressed the issue in 2018 while she was still dating James.
“Tonight’s episode was an emotional one for me. Use the word “stupid” to describe why I stay James is completely inappropriate,” she said at the time. “I grew up not knowing I had a learning disability, and it wasn’t until college that I was diagnosed with ADD,” she continued.
“I have always found learning difficult and failing my ice cream multiplication test was one of the first challenges I faced. However, I am NOT stupid. In fact, I discovered how I learn best in college and worked very hard for my degree, which I graduated with honors. Words like STUPID and DUMB are just as offensive as the word FAT.”
Rachel also expressed her gratitude for those who supported her throughout her healing process. “I have experienced so many emotions over the last week,” she continued Instagram stories. “I feel happy and validated, but also so sad and broken. I don’t want this to be swept under the rug like it used to be.”
She continued, “A big part of my podcast is about my experiences with coercive control and how I come to the realizations to overcome them.” Despite the heavy emotions, Leviss is determined to focus on the future.
“On a positive note, there is so much to look forward to in the coming year. I am grateful to everyone who has shown us kind words and words of encouragement during difficult times and despite the small victories.”
