A group of agitators waving Palestinian flags stormed the court during an event Basketball game between Israeli team Hapoel Holon and French team Nanterre 92, which led to chaos in the stands.
The chaos came in the third quarter of the game Nanterre, Francewhich was part of the FIBA Basketball Champions League.
About 10 people ran onto the square waving Palestinian flags, angering hundreds of participants from the French Jewish community who were cheering on the Israeli team.
Some of them anti-Israel agitators jumped into the stands and was quickly arrested by security. A group on the pro-Israel side began to break out into nationalist chants.
The game resumed a few minutes later after police arrested the troublemakers. Security was increased for the remainder of the game, including officers equipped with shields to separate members of the Jewish community from other fans.
The Ministry of Diaspora Affairs had issued an alert about the game earlier in the day, which contained early indications of a planned protest by groups expected to gather near the arena. These included the pro-Palestinian organization Europalestine and the far-left party La France Insoumise.
Nanterre mayor Raphaël Adam banned fans from attending the game earlier this week to “prevent public unrest,” but a court overturned that decision on Wednesday morning.

Hapoel Holon lost the game against Nanterre 87-77. However, thanks to the Bosnian team Igokea’s defeat against the German team Würzburg, the Israeli team still made it into the top 16. Yotam Hanochi led Guy Goodes’ scorer list with 18 points, while Paul Lacombe shone on the opposing side with 23 points.
