Russia’s war against Ukraine has been raging for nearly three years, with Ukraine losing territory and the morale of its soldiers plummeting in 2024.
“Even a year ago, I would never have heard of soldiers publicly saying anything negative about their leaders,” said Samya Kullab, Associated Press correspondent in Ukraine. “Now people not only tell me on the record, they go online on their social media with their names, their rank, their units and tell everyone they know what’s not working.”
Ukraine’s non-combatant population is also struggling with the effects of a long war.
“The war is all-encompassing, so there is no escaping it,” Kullab said.
“You walk down the street, you look at some beautiful little things for sale, and you see a little sign that says, ‘Please buy these handmade things.’” “I’m trying to raise money for my military unit “To collect my husband,” she said.
“There are donation boxes everywhere. “The number of amputees I see walking on the streets – I see them every day,” she added.
