Between 2014 and 2024, the Ministry of Regional Planning brought contracts for 34 rehabilitation projects for the old medinas in a total amount of approx. 6.106 billion. The financial contribution is estimated at 1.905 billion icon, including 1.234 billion DH for work.
These initiatives aim to preserve the cultural and architectural heritage of the Medinas, some of which are listed as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, such as those of Marrakech and Fez. The program extends to several cities, including Casablanca and Tétouan.
The priorities include the restoration of the infrastructure and the protection of buildings that threaten ruin with a participatory approach in which various ministries and local actors are involved.
Note that new programs are also being developed for medinas that have not yet been covered, such as those of El Jadida and Safi.
