Singer-songwriter Nick Jonas subsequently sparked reactions to what many X users interpreted as support for Elon Musk post a picture by the billionaire entrepreneur and new DOGE co-chair along with the caption “Take us to the year 3000.”
The apparent reference to a 2006 Jonas Brothers hit came in response to Musk commenting on an older GIF of the band holding a coffee table with the caption “My, how the tables have turned.” filmed, alluding to a story about Tesla’s success since President-elect Donald Trump’s victory.
The suggestion of supporting Musk angered many on the X platform, formerly known as Twitter, although Jonas never explicitly expressed support for Musk’s ideas.
“I hope that one day your daughter meets a man who treats her like Elon and the rest of his friends treat women. Let’s see how supportive you are then,” one critic wrote.

Another X user posted a screenshot from her device showing that Musk’s X account was locked, but Jonas’ reply to his tweet was visible.
“I have to block you too, sorry,” she wrote.
A third commenter urged Jonas to delete the post “now,” writing, “This man is terrible and even if this was just a joke, it’s not funny.”
Widespread comments also urged Jonas to take down the post or think about how he was doing Reply to Musk impressed his fans.
An overwhelming number of X users rushed to Jonas’ defense, criticizing critics for overreacting, reading between the lines, and providing feedback Cancel culture. Even some who don’t like Elon Musk came to his defense.

“They will try to bully and blame you for something as simple as tweeting about Elon. The left is so far gone and crazy,” they added.
A third agreed: “Amazing how many people are genuinely offended by this post. No one got emotional when Elon spoke to Cenk Uygur or responded to John Fetterman. Do you ever think that you act very much like zealots in a cult?”

According to reports, sources close to Jonas told the Daily Mail“Nick will not back down from his contribution to Elon Musk, nor will he double down on it, nor does he plan to delete it. He thinks many people are exaggerating things a little when it comes to how they react… For Nick: There are far more important things to worry about than dealing with online trolls over what he thinks is a funny and to deal with non-dramaturgical contributions.”
“Support or not, Nick was trying to be smart and make some kind of statement or announcement of support, but you can’t do anything on the internet without being attacked. “This will pass and Nick has already put this controversy behind him.”
