NASA’s Parker Solar Probe is preparing to flyby the sun on Christmas Eve

NASA’s Parker Solar Probe spacecraft is attempting to make history on Tuesday with its closest approach to the sun to date: It will approach the sun’s surface to within 3.8 million miles (6.1 million kilometers) and explore the corona, or outer atmosphere the sun.
