How did an MTA bus from the Bronx end up dangling off the highway?
According to the New York Post, An MTA bus driver lost control around 8:40 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, missed a turn and crashed through the stone wall of the Henry Hudson Parkway. A video shared on X (formerly Twitter) from the New York Post shows the bus teetering on the edge and huge chunks of rocks scattered across the road.
ABC 7 News reported that the bus had no passengers on board as it had just begun its route to Manhattan. The driver was struggling to maneuver around a parked car on the Henry Hudson Parkway. After passing the parked vehicle, the bus hit the curb and got stuck between a grassy area and a ditch.
A second bus driver, a few vehicles away in heavy morning traffic, offered to help. The second driver took the wheel to help and tried to negotiate the difficult curve, but the bus went out of control and crashed through the barrier wall.

Two tow trucks worked together to pull the vehicle Place the bus on solid ground. Firefighters also helped with the work Pix11. Despite the chaos, police confirmed that they got the driver safely off the bus. The 37-year-old MTA veteran escaped uninjured.
Additionally, Yonkers Depot Chairman Marcos Soler spoke with ABC 7 News about the frightening incident. Soler said the parked car on the street reduced the available space for the MTA bus driver.
“The way the car is angled and parked doesn’t hug the curb, so we have limited space. The express buses are longer than the local buses. So it is a bit of a challenge for the express operator to move around as we have 45ft and local buses are 40ft.” Soler explained.
