David Morrell hit back this week in response to the trash talk David Benavidez has had about him since their fight on February 1st, calling him one “Fat boy” and said he would be the “Terminator” when they meet in 49 days.
Morrell could target Benavidez’s flabby midsection with his punches and expose that weakness in their headliner on PBC Prime Video PPV at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
If Benavidez loses this fight, he can say goodbye forever to the massive mega-million count against the winner of the rematch between undisputed light heavyweight champion Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol on February 22nd.
Benavidez has his sights set on the winner of this fight because he can earn untold riches by fighting anyone who shows up. However, if Morrell destroys Benavidez, that will be the end of his dreams.
Monster’s appetite
Benavidez, 27, actually looked burly in the middle, and you could see his stomach during the promo shoot duel with Morrell, where both guys took off their shirts. “The Mexican Monster” Benavidez’s gut instinct didn’t resemble any professional athlete.
He is now works feverishlyis trying to lose weight in training and this week talks boldly, almost angrily, about what he’s going to do to Morrell. If he had discipline, he wouldn’t increase the weight in the first place.
In one video This week Benavidez said, “I’m going to knock that mother out.” Benavidez has become accustomed to being the bully against older, smaller and weaker opponents at super middleweight.
Now that Benavidez has moved up to 175, it’s still not to the point where he can’t do what he did before. He can’t use his size to dominate opponents, and he’s finally facing good players instead of the weak opposition his management has dished out for him throughout his 11-year career.
Benavidez’s best wins:
– Oleksandr Gvozdyk: 37 and coming out of a four-year retirement
–Anthony Dirrell: 38
–David Lemieux
– Demetrius Andrade: 35
– Caleb Plant: After his knockout loss to Canelo. Do I need to say more?
WBC interim 175-pound champion Benavidez has clearly been eating well. Still, he has to control himself because he could soon be forced to move up to cruiserweight or heavyweight.
It had only been five months since his last fight on June 15, but Benavidez appeared completely out of shape. This suggests he doesn’t live life between fights and let himself go like heavyweight Tyson Fury does.
“F*** you, fat boy. I’m the Terminator,” David Morrell told Fighthype, responding to WBC interim light heavyweight champion David Benavidez’s knockout predictions and trash talk ahead of their February 1st showdown in 49 days.
“Regular” WBA light heavyweight champion Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) says he prefers to show “respect” to his opponents, but when they get as vocal as Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs), he will show him nothing but his backside. Morrell states that if they were in Cuba, a person like Benavidez would get his butt kicked.
