Morocco’s publishing industry includes digital growth


The Rabat -Morockos publishing industry differs significant changes, which are characterized by the growing influence of digital publisher, especially in the areas of literature, humanities and social sciences.

Although the sector is still facing challenges in connection with production, distribution and distribution, the ongoing efforts of public institutions, universities and cultural associations have contributed to revitalizing the industry.

These initiatives contribute to the diversification of literary and academic performance Morocco, whereby digital formats play an increasingly central role in the spread of knowledge and cultural content.

A report published by King Abdulaziz al Saud in April 2025 illuminates the current state of publication in Morocco for the period from 2023-2024.

The report shows that around 8.97% of the total publication performance in Morocco now consists of digital publications. Remarkably, 6.3% of the digital publications of the digital publications are only for digital formats, whereby an essential part of this work is geared towards academic and scientific content, especially in the humanities and social sciences.

One of the most important findings from the report is the publication of academic theses that play an important role in the country’s publishing landscape. In the reporting period, 1.18% of all publications were academic theses, including 37 doctoral students and a master thesis. This reflects the important academic contribution to literary and scientific production in Morocco.

The report also talks about the contributions of public institutions, ministries and cultural associations on the overall publisher. Public institutions and ministries published 95 works, while universities produced 31 publications.

Cultural and professional associations were responsible for the publication of 59 works. These contributions underline the growing cooperation between different sectors, from science to culture, in the progress of the publishing industry in Morocco.

With regard to the language distribution, the report states that, in digital publications, dominant title language titles are still dominating with 89 works published in French, followed by 72 titles in Arabic and 41 in English. Digital publications for Arabic -speaking digital publications made up for around 35.64% of the total, with public institutions and research units provided the main tests for this service.

In the digital publishing sector, the economic and social studies have developed as the leading focus areas. The Center for Guidelines for New Southern Africa contributed 48.51% of digital publications in business studies, followed by social studies that made up around 25% of digital production.

Remarkable contributions in the social sciences came from institutions such as the High Council for Education, Education and Scientific Research, whereby the importance of academic and political research in the digital publishing landscape is further emphasized.

Despite the challenges of the sector, individual initiatives continue to increase growth in the Moroccan publishing industry. These efforts contribute to forming a dynamic and developing literary and academic environment, with digital publications playing a crucial role in expanding access and research.

The report provides valuable insights into the ongoing developments in the industry and underlines the essential contributions of the academic theses and the increasing importance of digital publications in the publishers in Morocco.
