Rabat – The Moroccan boxing referee Oumaima Smlali was appointed the best referee at the World Boxing Championship in NIS, Serbia from March 9th to 16th.
The Moroccan Royal Boxing Federation announced The news on Monday in an explanation on their social media. The Federation congratulated Smlali on recognition and described it as an “example of commitment and sporting excellence”.
This recognition contributes to the success of Morocco during the tournament, where boxers Widad Bertal and Hasnaa Larti also win medals. Bertal secured the gold medal in the category of 54 kg, while Larti acquired the bronze medal in the 81 kg.
After her victory, Bertal expressed her pride to claim the gold medal that she had devoted to King Mohammed VI and the Moroccan people.
“This gold medal is for the first athlete, his majesty king Mohammed VI, the Moroccan people and everyone who supported me,” the Moroccan athlete told SNRT news.

Nabil Hilmi, Vice President of the Royal Maroccan Boxing Federation, praised the performance of both boxers and recognized the challenges they met. “Winning these medals was not easy, although our goal was to achieve more,” he said.
Hilmi noted that Morocco won almost two more medals, but there was severe challenges, including lack of experience and difficult draws against high -ranking fighters.
