Rabat – Senior Establishment of the International Working Organization (IAO) today has unanimously selected Morocco to hold the 6th global conference to the elimination of child labor in 2026.
The ILO made the decision during its 353th session in Geneva and marks the first time that an Arab country will organize this international event.
According to an official explanation, which was cited by the Moroccos Press Agency (MAP), the selection reflects Morocco’s efforts through its constant mission of the United Nations in Geneva in Geneva in coordination with the Ministry of Economic Inclusion, Small Companies, Employment and Skills.
The conference, which takes place in the second quarter of 2026, will focus on global measures that are required for removal Child laborIn particular, in view of the uncovered goal of the goal for sustainable development (SDG) 8.7, which aims to exterminate child labor by 2025.
It is intended to assess the implementation of recommendations from the Second World Summit for social development, which is to take place in Doha in November 2025, especially with regard to the main causes of child labor.
The 6th global conference will also evaluate the progress that has been achieved since the last edition in Durban in May 2022. It will promote peer learning, information exchange and cooperation between countries at regional and global level.
In addition, the event focuses on the connection between Child labor Elimination and basic labor rights to promote new obligations as part of the global coalition for social justice.
Important discussions include initiatives such as Alliance 8.7, global efforts of business -related and global accelerators for jobs and social protection for only transitions.
According to Unicef, more than 1 out of 5 children in the poorest countries in the world have been dangerous since 2023.
This problem is particularly serious in areas affected by war and conflicts. Africa south of the Sahara has the highest number of child workers, with almost 24% of children between the ages of 5 and 17 being involved in work.
The main reasons for child labor in countries with low incomes are poverty and lack of education. However, child labor is not limited to poor countries, since more than half of the child workers actually live in countries with medium -sized incomes.
