Morocco takes over the presidency of the PSC of the African Union for March


Rabat-Morocco begins today the presidency of the decision-making committee of the African Union (PSC-Au) Peace and Security Council of the Peace and Security Council.

Morocco’s fourth presidency of the PSC-Au reflects the commitment of the North African country for peace, stability and prosperity of the continent.

Morocco previously headed the presidency of this Pan African decision -making body in February 2024, October 2022 and September 2019.

Morocco’s vision embodies a common African act that focuses on the noble questions of Africa and the most important interests of the citizens of the continent in the center of the Pan African agenda.

The country is appointed at a critical time in which Africa is exposed to increasing security challenges and is tightened by drought, epidemics and the spread of violent extremism.

These problems demand Innovative and comprehensive answers in the context of peace, security and the development -nexus approach, which was approved by the Tangier declaration, which the head of the African Union adopted in February 2023.

The presidency in Moroccos via PSC will have several important and decisive problems on its agenda. This includes “climate change: challenges for peace and security in Africa”, “Deradicalization as a lever in the fight against violent extremism in Africa” and “women, peace and security in Africa”.

The PSC will also have informal discussions with Burkina Faso, Gabon, Guinea, Mali, Niger and Sudan to accelerate the return of these countries to the Pan African institution.

A key to Morocco’s chairman of these African committees is a ministerial meeting on “artificial secret services and their effects on peace, security and governance in Africa”, which is included in the PSC for the first time on the country’s initiative.

That is Morocco’s third Presidency of the Au decision authority during the second term of three years (2022-2025) after October 2022 and February 2024.

In February 2024 Morocco’s PSC Presidency PSC worked In the case of topics that strengthened dialogue and cooperation in Africa, a multidimensional approach to peacekeeping, improving continental and international cooperation and answering humanitarian issues. Morocco also worked on sharing his specialist knowledge in various areas with African colleagues from the organization.

Morocco also headed PSC in September 2019 during its first term (2018-2020).

The country has consistently strengthened its position as African leader, who has committed to peace, security and sustainable development and emphasizes the principles of dialogue, good neighbors and preventive diplomacy.

In all three earlier appointments, the North African country has also reconciled its diplomacy in terms of state sovereignty and territorial integrity and combined diplomatic wisdom with innovation in order to contribute to a more stable and successful future for Africa.
