Mrirt – The United Nations’ Human Rights Council passed a significant decision on “women, diplomacy and human rights” during its 58th session.

The National Human Rights Council (CNDH) in Morocco praised this initiative, which was supported by a cross -border coalition, including Chile, Maldives, Mauritius, Mexico, Slovenia and Spain.
Amina Bouayach, who recently chosen both as a CNDH President and as chairman of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions, emphasized that the decision “reflects another collective commitment to the participation of women in the decision-making process and enables their full, same and safe participation in international diplomatic work.”
During their participation in the international day of women in diploma celebrations in Geneva in June 2024, Bouayach, emphasized This “participation of women in diplomatic work is not only a legitimate right, but essential to ensure comprehensive defense of human rights.”
She emphasized how important it is to recognize the contributions of female diplomats and to eliminate structural obstacles in order to prevent women from taking on leadership roles in international organizations.

“This new resolution,” said Bouayach, “not only is an additional step to determine the gender equality, thirty years after the explanation and platform for Beijing and the platform for actions, but also the formal recognition of the historical and symbolic efforts of pioneers in diplomacy worldwide.”
Despite international obligations, the resolution deals with the underrepresentation of women in diplomacy and multilateral forums. It requires a real structural transformation that is advocated by human rights committees, including the CNDH, to ensure a fair and effective participation of women in international decision -making.
Especially the CNDH recommend The institutionalization of the international day of women in diplomacy, as an annual occasion to train the contributions of women and the commitment to peace, equality, international cooperation and human rights and at the same time to promote renewed global dialogue about structural obstacles to women in diplomacy.
In the meantime, the Council renewed its call to all national and international partners to invest more efforts to break the “glass ceiling”, which hinders the access of women to decision positions.
