Rabat – The Moroccan government has approved an ambitious plan to increase the capacity of the country’s airports by 2030 from 30 million to 80 million passengers, said the Minister of Transport and Logistics Abdessamad Kayouh on Wednesday.
The investment plan, the part of the “Airports 2030” strategy of the National Airports Office (Onda) is 2030 World Cup.
Kayouh made the announcement at the meeting of the Onda Board of Directors. “We face major challenges, including preparations for the World Cup 2030. This plan will help support the growth of air traffic, to improve the quality of service and to improve the competitiveness of Morocco as a goal,” he said.
The minister also explained that the national strategy for air traffic encompasses a development plan for Royal Air Maroc (RAM), the country’s national airline. A contract with the government aims to increase the airline fleet from 50 to 200 aircraft by 2037.
An essential part of this transformation is to strengthen the Mohammed V airport from Casablanca as an international hub that combines four continents and supports the global ambitions of RAM.
Another main project is the connection of Casablanca’s Airport With the high -speed train (TGV). A new train station with international standards is being built to link air travel with road and regional train traffic.
“This enables passengers to reach tangers in less than two hours, Rabat in less than 30 minutes and Marrakech in less than 55 minutes. The regional rail network also offers trains every 15 minutes, which makes the airport more accessible,” explained Kayouh.
The government also focuses on the development of airports in the southern and eastern regions of the country. Cities like Beni Mellal, Ouarzazate, Zagora, Taroudant, Tata, Essmara and Bouarfa benefit from these upgrades to increase the home flight and tourism.
During the meeting, Minister Kayouh asked all board members to carefully monitor the implementation of these projects and ensure their successful execution.
