Morocco improves athletics doping rankings
Morocco has improved its doping risk ranking by upgrading the Athletics Integrity Unit from Category A, consisting of countries with the highest doping risk, to Category B, the Moroccan Anti-Doping Agency (AMAD) announced on Wednesday.
“The Athletics Integrity Unit announced in early 2025 that Morocco had been reclassified from Category A (countries with the highest risk of doping) to Category B. Moroccan athletics has been classified in Category A since March 5, 2020,” AMAD said in a press release.
“This upgrade of Moroccan athletics is the crowning achievement of the efforts of the Moroccan Anti-Doping Agency (AMAD),” the statement continued.
Since its creation, this entity has “established a national anti-doping program for Moroccan sport and in particular for the Royal Moroccan Athletics Federation, in accordance with Article 15.2.3 of the World Athletics Anti-Doping Rules and in accordance with Moroccan legislation.” 97 -12 in connection with the fight against doping in sport,” emphasizes the same source.
AMAD explains that Category A countries have very restrictive requirements, both in terms of the number of tests to be carried out before participating in international events and in terms of educational programs.
“In this regard, the 18th World Athletics Championships Eugene 2022, the 19th World Athletics Championships Budapest 2023 and the Paris 2024 Olympic Games had an average of 4.93; 5.4 and 8 tests were carried out per athlete, respectively, placing Morocco 4th in the world,” the press release said.
