The cold and fog I mentioned last week continues, but I still did well. Also, Costco had a good sale on GoPro Hero 13 cameras last week, so my wife bought me one as a Christmas present and I tried it out on a few rides. I like it because it has voice activation so it’s hands free. I tried both photos and videos. The photos are great and you can also extract good still images from video frames. But I have to raise my camera mount because it captures my phone and handlebars in the picture. This is easy to edit out of still images, but not videos. Also, I need to be good at video editing so I can extract short clips. That’s why I’m just showing some still images in this post.

On Sunday I went for a long drive on a particularly foggy day. Cars were barely visible, only faint headlights in the fog. I was also afraid that I wouldn’t be able to see anyone at all if they were walking without lights. So I headed to the Coyote Creek Trail. When I got there the visibility had improved so I could see the pedestrians and other cyclists well enough.

Yesterday my group went horseback riding in the hills east of Gilroy, starting at the end of Roop Road at the Mendoza Ranch entrance to Harvey Bear Park. I usually carpool to this ride with a friend and drive my upright car. However, since I had neck problems on long rides while standing, I decided to ride my recumbent bike from home and take extra batteries with me. This made for a long drive with a total travel time of 4 1/2 hours. The nice thing was that it was sunny as soon as I left the house.
