Mohamed Salah posts cryptic tweet as contract dispute continues

Mohamed Salah kept the pressure on Liverpool this afternoon by posting a tweet mentioning the three big-name players whose contracts expire at the end of the season.

Salah’s tweet contained no words and was simply a picture of himself, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk, with all three able to leave Anfield in June.

Salah’s choice of image is unlikely to be a coincidence and he continues his public pursuit of a new contract to remain on Merseyside.

No progress, said Salah

The usually media-shy Egyptian has spoken more than once about the lack of agreement on a deal, saying again last week that he now expects to leave in five months.

“There is no progress,” he told Sky Sports Prospect of a contract extension. “We are a long way from making progress. We’ll just have to wait and see.

“The thing in my head is, if this is the last six months, what do you want to see in the future? Do you want to look back and say, “I was worried or stressed about the contract”?

“Or do you just want to say, ‘I had an incredible season’? That’s what’s going on in my head. If I ever feel distracted, I just remind myself that I want to look back and say I had an incredible season.”

Another trophy

Salah said he hopes to win another trophy during his time at Liverpool, who played in a 2-2 draw with Manchester United yesterday, with the 32-year-old scoring one of the goals from the penalty spot.

“My motivation this year was to win a trophy and to play a big part in winning this trophy – especially the Premier League,” Salah added, discussing the squad put together by Arne Slot’s predecessor Jürgen Klopp, whose trophies included the Champions League 2018/19 and Premier League 2019/20.

“There’s still half of this team left like me, Trent, Virgil, Alisson, Robbo (Andy Robertson). It is necessary that we win another trophy before we all leave.”
