Meghan Markle’s Dog Guy Died: ‘I Cried Too Many Tears to Count’
Meghan Markle is mourning the death of her dog, nearly ten years after she adopted the beagle from a rescue in Canada.
“I’ve cried too many tears to count – the kind of tears that make you want to take a shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them or pretending they’re not there,” Markle, 43, wrote over Instagram on Tuesday, January 7th. “But they are. And that’s okay too.”
Markle recalled the moment in 2015 when she met her dog, who she would name Guy. He had been in a killing center in Kentucky and only had a few days to live.
“I flipped him up…and fell in love,” she wrote. “They called him ‘the little guy’ because he was so small and frail, so I called him ‘Guy.’ And he was the best man a girl could ask for.”
The Duchess of Sussex said Guy was by her side as she worked on it old blog, The Tigand filmed Scenes for Suits. He was also around for all of her milestone celebrations Prince Harry and their children Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3.
“When I came busy(and then married) when I became a mother,” she shared. “He was with me through everything: the silence, the chaos, the calm, the comfort.”
Since Markle shared many photos of Guy in her announcement, she confirmed that her dog will make some appearances in her upcoming Netflix show titled With love, Meghan.
According to Netflix’s official logline, the show “reinvents the genre of lifestyle programming” with Markle at the helm and “combines practical guidance and candid conversations with friends.” It also offers a glimpse into her life in California.
“As many of you will now see Guy in this new series, I hope you understand why I am so devastated by his loss,” Markle said. “I think you might fall in love a little too.”
In her personal tribute to Guy, Markle also took time to recount a “terrible accident” her dog suffered before she moved to the UK. Guy had to undergo surgery and healing away from home for several months.
“The doctors said he would never walk again, but Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick said he could do it,” she wrote. “H and I went to see Guy late at night, after work, while he was recovering in Surrey for months. I will always be grateful to Noel and his team, the team at Queen West Animal Hospital in TO, our current veterinarians and my friends and community: thank you for loving him so much.”
In a recent message to her followers, Markle urged animal lovers to consider skipping shopping the next time they’re looking for a furry friend. She continued to thank him for all the beautiful memories she shared with Guy.
“Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet guy,” she wrote. “You have fulfilled my life in ways you will never know ❤️🩹#adoptdontshop.”
