The Sector for Medical Devices represents an essential pillar of the sovereignty of industry and health health, the Minister of Industry and Trade said in Rabat on Tuesday on Tuesday. Mezzour has also emphasized that this sector is developed in a strong growth market in Morocco and supported by several factors, in particular the generalization of the obligatory health insurance (AMO) and the development of the hospital infrastructure throughout the kingdom.
However, the minister emphasized that this industry is still far from making their full potential in relation to self -sufficiency, even if significant progress was achieved, particularly in the structure of the sector with the implementation of clusters and the creation of FMIS . Mezzour thus noticed the efforts in the context of import substitution policy, citing several projects.
Mehdi Tazi, Vice President CGem General, said that the sector is based in 2024 and around 4,000 employees with a turnover of 7 billion DH, which indicates its importance for the economy. The sector, he emphasized, remains faced with several problems in the medium term, namely the inadequacy of local production and technological acceleration. This sector is still largely dependent on imports, with more than 90% of the satisfied demand of imported products currently on import products.
With regard to the technological development, Mehdi Tazi said that the health sector was “in full change” and is gradually heading for a model that focuses on preventive medicine and requires the need to use future technological innovations.
