Maximum Entertainment sells Merge Games assets to Silver Lining

Maximum Entertainment announced this week that it is divesting some of its assets from its subsidiary. Merge games. Specifically, it would sell IP rights for certain games and retail product inventory to Silver Lining Interactive, a UK-based publisher owned by Merge’s founders. This divestiture comes as Merge Games is in the process of merging with Maximum.

Subject to the terms and conditions published by Maximum, this company retains all rights to Smalland: Survive the Wilds, Bramble: The Mountain King, Pixelshire, Morbid: The Lords of Ire and Sunnyside. The assets being sold include 90 Merge Games titles, including Spirit of the North (a sequel was reportedly in development at one point). Maximum will receive consideration of €1,000,000, payable upon completion, which took place on Monday.

Philippe Cohen, CEO of Maximum Entertainment, said in a statement: “This agreement is an important step towards balancing Maximum Entertainment’s financial position and repaying our liabilities. Recently founded by the founders of Merge, Silver Lining Interactive is the ideal partner for this sale. The deal puts these divested IPs in good hands and sets them up for success, while also allowing Maximum Entertainment to focus its resources on flagship titles that we believe will add value through 2025 and beyond .”

Merge Games was one of the many, many studios facing layoffs in 2024 and announced its integration into Maximum the closure of its Chelford office (A former community manager said that Merge laid off all but two of its employees during this process.)
