Manchester United “want to win the FA Cup,” says Amorim
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim wants to win the FA Cup in his first season at the club.
United face Arsenal in a tough third-round clash on Sunday afternoon, but the former Sporting boss says the history of the trophy makes it important to him and United.
He said, “I see what everyone sees. It’s a really old competition with a lot of history.
“I remember watching some of the finals, including when we won the treble in 1999.

“We have won a few trophies and want to keep going. At this point we already have a really strong game that we want to win and we want to improve the image and performance.
“We are in a difficult moment. We are improving, we will field the best team to try to win. I will choose the best team to win. We want to win the cup.”
Amorim confirmed that Altay Bayindir will start in goal and play against as strong a team as possible.
United are the defending champions after shocking rivals Manchester City at Wembley last season and have won the cup 13 times – one less than Arsenal.
Amorim is not convinced about the immediate future of Marcus Rashford, who is reportedly keen to leave Old Trafford, but says he wants to continue the club’s tradition of bringing players in from the academy.
He said: “We need to improve recruitment so that when we select players we can be sure they meet the requirements.”
“We also need to improve our academy. Young kids who really understand the club and do business to have money to invest in the team.
“Our aim is always to keep the best players and build them for this club, but I am really happy and like our players, especially the boys from the academy.”
United last faced Arsenal in the 2019 cup, with Jesse Lingard scoring in a 3-1 win at the Emirates.
