Manchester United and Scotland legend Denis Law has died aged 84
Denis Law, the legendary Scotland and Manchester United icon, has died aged 84.
Law, known as “The King” and “The Lawman,” had a career that spanned decades. He began his professional career at Huddersfield Town before moving to Manchester City and then Turin in Italy.
In 1962 Law moved to Manchester United, where he became a club legend. His 237 goals for the club puts him third on the all-time top scorers list, behind only Wayne Rooney and Bobby Charlton.
“It is with a heavy heart that we inform you that our father Denis Law has sadly passed away,” the Law family said in a statement.
“He fought a hard battle, but now he is finally at peace.
“We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to his welfare and care, both in the past and more recently. We know how much people supported and loved him and that love was always appreciated and made all the difference. Thank you very much.”

A key member of the legendary Manchester United team that won the European Cup in 1968, Law’s influence on the club and Scottish football is undeniable. He was also successful with the Scottish national team, scoring 30 goals in 55 appearances.
Law was awarded the Ballon d’Or in 1964 in recognition of his exceptional talent and contribution to sport.
After his retirement, Law continued to be involved in football, devoting his time to charities and being a respected figure in football. He was made a CBE in 2016 for his services to football and charity and has been honored with statues at Old Trafford and Aberdeen.
Manchester United released a statement expressing their sadness at the news of Law’s death. “He will always be celebrated as one of the club’s greatest and most popular players,” the club said. “The ultimate goalscorer, his flair, his spirit and his love of the game made him the hero of a generation.”
