MAGA blames DEI for California wildfires
As forest fires raged on Wednesday in the Los Angeles areawhich is consuming over 28,000 acres of land, destroying thousands of homes and buildings including entire neighborhoods, and resulting in the deaths of at least five people, President-elect Donald Trump, his MAGA followers, right-wing commentators, conservative news outlets and widespread people. The right-wing conspiracy theorists don’t blame climate change or eight months without rain, but rather the wake-up call.
Trump – who supports a huge expansion of fossil fuel extraction and use scientific consensus is directly linked to the increasing prevalence of extreme weather events – used the unfolding tragedy to attack his long-time nemesis, California Governor Gavin Newsom. He claimed that Democrats’ commitment to environmental issues was responsible for the Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LAFD) inability to contain what was already the worst fire in California history.

The Governor’s Press Office issued a statement On Wednesday, he criticized Trump’s comments, pointing out that “there is no document like the water restoration declaration – that is pure fiction.”
The Democrats’ embrace of so-called “woke politics” has become an ever-present bugbear for the right in recent years. As in previous generations, they blamed various problems after major events such as “Political Corrective” and “Affirmative Action.” Assassination attempt against Trump last July and the collapse of the Baltimore Bridge Last March, they now routinely blamed wokeism and Diversity, Equality and Inclusion (DEI).
“Can we rename DEI to DIE since this seems to be happening to people subordinate to those who place alertness signals far above competence?!?” Donald Trump Jr. wrote on Truth Social on Wednesday.
Trump confidant and hundred billionaire X owner Elon Musk, never one shy away from a conspiracy theoryHe also used his platform to spread disinformation about what was responsible for the wildfires.
“DEI means people DIE,” Musk wrote in one post, while several other posts criticized LAFD Chief Kristin Crowley, who has worked in the department for 22 years praised for working with her wife to save nine homes from complete destruction during the Woolsey fire in 2018.
Crowley is the first woman and first member of the LGBTQ community to hold the position of fire chief in LA.
Musk shared a post from Chaya Raichik, the woman behind it hateful, anti-LGBTQ account LibsOfTikTok: “Meet Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley. She boasts about being the LA Fire Department’s first female and LGBTQ fire chief. Promoting a DEI culture is their priority. Does this make you feel safer?” The post has been viewed over five million times.
