The WPL Auction 2025 took place on Sunday (December 15) in Bengaluru. The event saw a number of players sold as franchises consolidated their team for the next edition of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), expected to take place in February next year.
Up to 19 spots should be filled in the 2025 WPL auction. Of these, 14 were in India and 5 were abroad. At the start of the event, all the franchises together had prize money of INR 16.7 crore and hence the event ended quickly, unlike the IPL 2025 auction which ended after two days.
Heading into the 2024 WPL auction, Gujarat Giants had the maximum price of INR 4.4 crore and four spots to fill, while UP Warriorz had the second-largest price of INR 3.9 crore and a total of three spots to fill.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru was priced at INR 3.25 lakh and will have four spots to fill. Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals had INR 2.65 and 2.5 respectively teams each with 4 spaces that need to be filled.
Simran Shakih was the most expensive player in the 2025 WPL auction
India Played Simran Shakih was the most expensive player in the WPL 2025 auction as she was acquired by the Gujarat Giants for the whopping amount of INR 1.90 crore. The second most expensive player in this edition of the auction was sold to the Gujarat Giants who picked up Deandra Dottin for INR 1.70 crore.
G Kamalini also bagged a hefty deal as he got INR 1.60 crore from Mumbai Indians. Indian player Prema Rawat was among the most expensive players in the WPL 2025 auction as he was picked by Royal Challengers Bengaluru for INR 1.20 Crore.
Delhi Capitals Women brought in three players, Nandini Kashyap, N Charani and Sarah Bryce, while Deandra Dottin and Simran Shaikh were bought from Gujarat Giants.
Nadine de Klerk, G. Kamalini and Sanskriti Gupta will play for Mumbai Indians in the WPL 2025 while Arushi Goel, Kranti Goud and Alana King will wear the UP Warriors jerseys.
