LGs transparent wireless OLED TV is now available. The 77-inch OLED-T features 4K resolution, LG’s wireless transmission technology for video and audio, and the ability to switch between transparent and opaque modes at the touch of a button. This futuristic technology, first revealed at CES 2024, will only set you back… oh damn, this thing costs $60,000.
Engadget’s Billy Steele I looked at the OLED T in January and was impressed by the unique presentation. Although some transparent images can seem unsettling – like a miniaturized singer that appeared to be in the room – the aquarium video in the image below was more pleasant. He also found that the TV’s downward-firing speakers sounded surprisingly good.
You can switch between transparent and opaque modes by pressing a button that increases or decreases the contrast of the screen. If you prefer the fancy aquarium look, it rolls up into a box at the base. It also features a backlight to accentuate the transparent look.
The TV also features a chyron-like T-bar at the bottom that allows you to check sports scores, the weather, song titles and more. The bar can stay on even when the rest of the TV is turned off.
The OLED T is powered by LG’s Alpha 11 A1 processor, which has four times the performance of the previous generation chip – including 70 percent better graphics performance and 30 percent faster processing speed. With LG’s Zero Connect Box, which wirelessly sends video and audio to the TV, the TV maintains its clear profile. Simply connect your streaming boxes and game consoles to it and not to the TV.
If you happen to be Bill Gates (‘sup, Bill!), you can pay $60,000 to order the LG OLED T starting today. It is available on the LG website and at select retail partners, including Best Buy.
