John Stamos supports Dave Coulier in his fight against cancer
John Stamos thinks about the people who mean the most to him as one year ends and another begins.
The Full house The 61-year-old star shared an emotional post about his Instagram on Wednesday, January 1, as he reflected on “love, loss and growth.”
“Happy New Year!” He started with the long headline of the post. “As the calendar turns, I reflect on a year filled with love, loss and growth. The past year has been one of the most transformative of my life. I have experienced moments of great gratitude, deep sadness and the kind of clarity that only comes when you truly let life happen the way it is meant to happen.”
The caption included a photo of Stamos with his wife Caitlin McHugh38, who he married in 2018and her son Billy, 6.
Both Caitlin and Billy were the first to be name-checked in the thoughtful Instagram post.
“To Caitlin and Billy – you are my heart. “Every morning we cuddle and laugh together is a memory I will cherish forever,” Stamos wrote. “You remind me daily that the simplest moments are often the most meaningful.”
Stamos also referred to his Full house costar, Dave Coulier, And his ongoing battle with cancertag him in the caption and on the photo itself.
“@dcoulier, you got this!” Stamos, who played Uncle Jesse alongside Coulier’s Uncle Joey on the popular ’90s sitcom, wrote.
Coulier, 65, was diagnosed with stage 3 non-Hodgkin lymphoma in October. Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma is a type of cancer that attacks the body’s lymphatic system and “affects white blood cells called lymphocytes, which can grow abnormally and form growths (tumors) throughout the body,” according to the Mayo Clinic.
The actor also opened up about the loss of a childhood friend Mike Owenwho had been Stamos’ best friend since she was 11 years old. Owen died of a heart attack in November.
“To Mike, my oldest and dearest friend whom we lost this year – you will forever be my silent Obi-Wan, guiding me with your silent strength. Your loss has left a void in my life, but I carry your light forward in everything I do,” Stamos wrote.
Stamos continued to recall his sobriety successes in 2024 and expressed that he is looking forward to the future.
“This year I celebrated my sobriety again and I am deeply proud of it. This year has been a new beginning for me and I am so grateful for the second chance that life offers if you choose it,” he wrote. “I’m excited about what lies ahead – new projects, new stories to tell, and new opportunities to create and connect. But for now, I hold on to the silence, the laughter and the love of these moments with my family.”
He concluded: “To everyone reading this: May the New Year bring you kindness, courage and the peace of knowing you are exactly where you are meant to be.”
