Jim Morrison’s brother reflects on Doors Singer’s final days
Jim Morrison‘s brother, Andy Morrisongave a rare interview about the late Doors frontman in the new docuseries Before the End: Looking for Jim Morrison.
Although there have been numerous theories in the years since the rocker’s death in 1971, Andy offered a simple explanation for his brother’s death.
“His lifestyle (killed him). “Obviously he drank too much,” Andy said on the show. “I think he was overweight at that point, and when you’re not feeling well and you’re drinking too much and doing drugs, it’s not that hard.”
Jim’s body was found on July 3, 1971, in the bathtub of a Paris apartment rented by his then-girlfriend. Pamela Courson. The official cause of death was given as heart failure, but an autopsy was never performed as it was not required by French law.
The new documentary explores the long-held conspiracy theory by some Doors fans that Jim faked his own death to avoid the pressures of fronting a world-famous rock band.
At least Jim traveled to Paris to take a break from the Doors after the band finished their album LA woman.
“I think he actually wanted to write seriously again. And maybe he had outgrown the Doors thing, that would have been enough,” Andy said Before the end. “I don’t think he was 100 percent ready. I think he just needed a break.”
Doors guitarist a few years ago Robby Krieger He dismissed theories that his former bandmate was still alive somewhere, partly because he doesn’t believe Jim could have truly left music behind.
“When he went to Paris, supposedly to get away from it all, all he did was jump on stage with these rotating house bands, get drunk and sing,” said the 79-year-old Krieger People in 2021. “He couldn’t let it stop him. That’s why I know he’s dead. Because if he were alive, he would be up on the stage somewhere.”
Krieger also didn’t like the Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek occasionally fanned the flames by suggesting that Jim might still be alive. (Manzarek died in 2013 at age 74.)
“I loved talking to Ray and he always said, ‘I wouldn’t be surprised if Jim showed up.’ And I kept thinking, ‘Come on, man, you don’t really believe that, do you?'” Krieger said Classic rock magazine in 2020. “That was pretty much bullshit -. Yes, he didn’t have to do that.”
