JAL said it suspended ticket sales for all services on Thursday following the incident.
Japan Airlines (JAL) has reported that it was hit by a cyberattack that caused delays to some flights.
The airline had “detected disruptions in systems that communicate with external systems” since shortly before 7:30 a.m. local time (23:30 GMT, Wednesday), JAL said on Thursday.
JAL temporarily isolated a router that caused the disruption shortly before 9 a.m. and is currently “reviewing the status of system recovery,” the Tokyo-based airline said.
“We have identified the extent of the impact and are currently reviewing the status of system recovery,” JAL said.
The airline added that there were delays on both domestic and international flights and that it had suspended ticket sales for all flights scheduled for Thursday.
There were delays to more than a dozen flights at several Japanese airports, but there were no mass cancellations, public broadcaster NHK reported.
All Nippon Airways, JAL’s main rival, said the company was not affected by any cyber incidents and that flights were operating normally.
American Airlines briefly suspended all flights on Christmas Eve after a technical glitch occurred in its network hardware.
