Jack Draper: The British number 1 had to retire injured after being two sets behind against Carlos Alcaraz | Tennis News
Jack Draper’s heroic run at the Australian Open came to an end after the British number 1 withdrew from his fourth-round clash against Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz at Rod Laver Arena.
The British No. 1 came into the tournament with little preparation after suffering a hip injury in pre-season, which he admitted she was still dealing with.
He then challenged his body in three five-set matches, spending more than twelve and a half hours on the court, but it proved too much.
After taking a medical timeout at the end of a hard-fought first set, Draper found himself increasingly in trouble in the second set and after Alcaraz took a 7-5, 6-1 lead, the 15th seed settled for victory the handshake.
