Israel attacks Yemen’s Sanaa airport and Hodeidah power plant: reports | News

BREAK,

Israel launches airstrikes in Yemen, targeting Sanaa airport, military base and a power plant in Hodeida.

Multiple Israeli airstrikes targeted an airport, a military base and a power plant in Yemen, Israeli and Houthi media said.

Sanaa airport and the adjacent Al-Dailami base, as well as a power plant in Hodeidah, were targeted in attacks that the Houthis’ Al-Masirah television channel described as “Israeli aggression.”

There was no immediate comment from Israel on the attacks, which came a day after Yemen fired a ballistic missile and two drones at Israel.

Al Jazeera’s Hamdah Salhut, reporting from Amman, said that whenever Israeli forces carry out such attacks in Yemen, “they often release a detailed statement afterwards with video footage showing all types of jets involved.”

Yemen-based journalist Hussain al-Bukhaiti told Al Jazeera that the attack on Sanaa airport also targeted one of the control towers, meaning the airport is likely not operational at the moment.

On Saturday, 16 people were injured in a Houthi rocket attack in Tel Aviv. Saturday’s incident prompted a warning from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who said he had ordered the destruction of Houthi infrastructure.

Houthi fighters in Yemen have attacked Israel and affiliated vessels in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden since Israel launched its attack on Gaza on October 7, 2023, following a Hamas-led attack on Israel.

The Houthis say they are acting in solidarity with Palestinians in the war on Gaza, in which Israel has killed more than 45,000 people, mostly children and women.
