Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna says his side are “not too far away” after their first home win of the season lifted them to 18th in the Premier League table.
Liam Delap’s penalty and a low shot from Omari Hutchinson defeated Chelsea and will give the Tractor Boys confidence heading into 2025.
They are just one point behind Wolves and two behind Everton.
McKenna said: “It was all it took. I thought we came out really quick, really aggressive and tried to assert ourselves in the game.” “I thought Liam (Delap) was unbelievable tonight. He was one of many incredible performances tonight.

“The performances generally gave hope, we played almost every game. If you do that, you always have a chance. We’re just a few points short of what we could have achieved.
“Obviously getting three points tonight is always welcome. We’re in games and not too far away.”
“We have to keep going”
Delap was a thorn in Chelsea’s side throughout, scoring goals and assists in the Premier League for the second time this season and scoring Town’s first top-flight penalty since November 2001.
He told Sky Sports: “We worked so hard this season and it didn’t go well. The performances deserved a win and today we showed that we are excellent, we defended well and attacked well. We’re buzzing.”
“We had three or four opportunities where we didn’t get the penalty that we probably deserved, so it was nice to get that one and score. I’ve practiced them a million times, so I just aimed at the corner and placed it there.
“I don’t think much changes. We performed similarly in other games this season but didn’t get the right result. We didn’t take our chances or conceded late. We just have to keep going and get more wins.”
