IPL 2025 starts on March 21, BCCI confirms

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has confirmed that the 2025 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) will begin on March 21 and end on May 25. The announcement was made by BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla during an exclusive conversation with Sports Tak. The dates are a slight change from the previously proposed start of March 14th.

IPL starts right after Champions Trophy 2025

The upcoming season of IPL follows immediately afterwards ICC Champions Trophywhich takes place from February 19th to March 9th. The tight scheduling highlights Indian cricket’s busy calendar of back-to-back marquee events.

The IPL 2025 opener will take place at Eden Gardens, Kolkata and the rest of the schedule is expected to be released soon.

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), led by a new captain, will start the new season as defending champions. KKR won the title last year by defeat Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in an exciting final.

Fans will be excited to see how the teams fare after the recent IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Several high-profile transfers took place during the auction, resulting in significant changes to the team composition.

One of the most talked about changes is Rishabh Pant’s move to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). The former Delhi Capitals (DC) captain moved to LSG while KL Rahul, who captained LSG last season, was picked by DC.

Future IPL seasons will also be announced

The BCCI has also announced the tentative dates for the next two IPL seasons:

Apart from the scheduling updates, the BCCI has appointed a new IPL commissioner for a term of one year. The identity of the new commissioner has yet to be announced, but his role will be critical to the smooth running of the league.
