Illegal immigrant involved in suspected DUI accident that killed real estate agent


A real estate agent in Georgia died in a suspected DUI accident allegedly involving a man minor illegal immigrants from Honduras who ran a red light at 100 miles per hour (mph) and struck the driver.

Police in Chamblee, Georgia, said 20-year-old Christian Fernando Irias-Ruiz ran a red light at 100 miles per hour around 1:30 a.m. Sunday and T-boned another car, causing the killed the driver to local station WSB-TV.

Family and friends identified the crash victim as 37-year-old Jimmy Chang, according to his social media and a GoFundMe page.

A source told Fox News Digital that the suspect is an illegal immigrant from Honduras. He was arrested and released by Border Patrol in South Texas around June 2021.

The source said ICE also housed an inmate at the DeKalb County Jail.

Irias-Ruiz faces multiple charges, including first-degree vehicular homicide, drunken driving, reckless driving, speeding and possession of alcohol by a person under 21.

Police told WSB-TV that Irias-Ruiz was also driving without insurance and without a license and a suspended registration.

“It won’t bring my brother back, but hopefully justice will be served,” Jason Chang, Jimmy Chang’s brother, told WSB-TV. “We kind of don’t know what to do now.”

Four people were taken to hospital due to injuries sustained in the accident, including Irias-Ruiz and two passengers in his vehicle and the other was the driver of a third car.

“We are deeply saddened by the sudden loss of our beloved Jimmy. “We are heartbroken by Jimmy’s unexpected death,” reads a post on a GoFundMe page.

The Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA) also confirmed Chang’s death and honored his memory.

“It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that the AREAA Atlanta Chapter BOD would like to share the news of the sudden passing of our chapter president and dear friend Jimmy Chang,” the post reads.

Chang’s brother told WSB-TV that their family is devastated and still in shock that their beloved Jimmy is missing.

“It’s devastating for the whole family at the moment, I still can’t cope with him being gone. He impacted many lives,” Jason Chang said.

Fox News Digital reached out to the Chamblee Police Department for comment but did not immediately receive a response.
