Following the recent release of the Epstein files, then-Prince Andrew’s claims in a BBC Newsnight interview in 2019 may come under renewed scrutiny.
The BBC’s Sean Coughlan and Sarah Campbell reviewed the interview to compare Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s responses to emails apparently sent to and from the former prince.
He is facing increasing pressure from US officials and the family of his high-profile accuser, the late Virginia Giuffre, to testify in the US about his ties to Jeffrey Epstein.
The disgraced financier was convicted of procuring a child for prostitution in 2008 and died by suicide in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.
The BBC has contacted Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor for comment. He has previously denied any wrongdoing.
