House Democrats were furious Thursday over the drama over the spending bill and what they see as the outsized influence of Elon Musk and others in Trump’s orbit, just hours after a bipartisan plan negotiated by House Speaker Mike Johnson had previously failed.
Speaking to reporters before a leadership meeting on Thursday, House Democrats expressed disappointment that Republicans had backed away from the negotiated dispute, with many accusing them of appearing to take cues from Elon Musk.
Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., referred to Billionaire X’s owner as “President Musk” when he spoke to reporters Thursday.
“It is simply unbearable for Republicans that President Musk would step in at the last moment and blow up the deal,” Nadler said. “You have to negotiate, and you have to be able to enforce what you negotiated, and what was negotiated was a very good deal for the American people.”

House Democratic leader Katherine Clark, D-Massachusetts, was emotional as she expressed frustration over the drawn-out negotiations and revised debt ceiling deal, saying she believes Republicans need to “do the right thing.” .

Musk’s team did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for a response to comments about his role in the spending bill negotiations.
