An employee of a Brooklyn Homeless shelter was brutally stabbed outside the complex on Thursday evening, police said.
The horrific incident occurred at a Days Inn hotel on East New York Avenue in the Brownsville neighborhood that had been converted into an emergency shelter by the city.

The unnamed employee, 35, was attacked around 6:20 p.m. and then ran into the building to get help. He was stabbed multiple times in the neck and abdomen and was bleeding profusely in the lobby when paramedics arrived to transport him to Brookdale Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are looking for a male suspect who was dressed in black and wearing a baseball cap and ski mask.
There is no information yet on what sparked the gruesome attack, but several hotels in the area have been converted into homeless shelters and a number of violent crimes have been committed there in the past.

A neighbor told the New York Post: “They converted all the hotels in the area into shelters during the COVID-19 crisis. There are four or five more around here. Lots of stabbings. A lot of trouble.”

New York City has struggled with violent crime on the streets and on public transport, a problem only exacerbated by the flood of illegal immigrants arriving without shelter. Mayor Eric Adams has repeatedly expressed frustration with the federal government, arguing that the city lacks the resources to take care of it.
According to City Hall reports, an estimated 220,000 migrants have poured into the city since April 2022, with over 58,000 currently being cared for by New York taxpayers.
