Here is the updated WTC 2023-25 points table after India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to Australia
The points table ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 Things are looking much clearer at present after India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 to Australia. The WTC table leaderboard is determined by Percentage System (PCT) points.
South Africa vs Australia showdown at Lord’s
As Australia claimed a historic victory in the SCG test, securing the Border Gavaskar Trophy After 10 years, the two teams for the coveted ICC WTC final have now been decided. South Africa is currently at the top of the table with 66,670 points. The Proteas managed to achieve 7 wins and 3 draws in the current cycle, playing a total of 11 games. The only match the South Africans have lost so far this cycle was against India in the Freedom Trophy in January 2024. The South African team is currently playing a two-match Test series against Pakistan on home soil.
The road to the final wasn’t as smooth for the Aussies as it was for the Proteas, but the Australian team showed their mettle and fought hard for their place throughout the cycle. The Australians managed to draw the 2023 Ashes England and the Frank Worrell Trophy against the West Indies. However, the Australian team secured important points for the WTC cycle with a clean victory in the Benaud-Qadir Trophy Pakistan and Trans-Tasman Trophy against New Zealand. The Australian desperately needed to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy to reach the WTC final and the former champions did just that, defeating India 3-1 in the series. Australia still has to play Sri Lanka in the current cycle.
It is noteworthy that the two finalists, South Africa and Australia, have not played against each other in the current WTC cycle.

India is ranked third in the current WTC cycle
The Indian team’s steep decline in the game’s longest format is evident not only from their performance in the recent series loss to Australia but also from the fact that India, the two-time WTC runners-up, failed to achieve that Final of the prestigious title and could only reach third place in the table.
India had played all their matches in the current cycle and only managed to collect 50 PCT points with 9 wins and 8 losses. A clean sweep against New Zealand and the recent 3-1 defeat in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy had most dented India’s chances of reaching the WTC final. The Kiwis trail India in the rankings with 48,210 PCT points, followed by Sri Lanka, England, BangladeshPakistan and West Indies.
The 2025-27 World Test Championship cycle is scheduled to begin in June this year when England take on India in a 5-match Test series on home soil.
