Savior on helicopters are looking for the ruins of remote villages in the east of Afghanistan for survivors of a powerful earthquake, in which 800 people were killed and 1,800 more injured.
Many are feared that after the earthquake of the strength 6.0 on Sunday near the border of the country to Pakistan, they are caught under the ruins of their houses.
The authorities who were searched for the second day in the air on Tuesday when the streets blocked with ruins and the mountain range in the affected areas made it difficult to travel.
The Taliban government appealed for international help. The United Nations have published emergency agents, while Great Britain has promised 1 million GBP (USD 1.3 million).
The earthquake on Sunday was one of the strongest that Afghanistan has reached in recent years. The country is very susceptible to earthquakes, since it is located on a number of fault lines in which the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates meet.
In 2023, more than 1,400 people died after a series of 6.3 earthquakes were met near the West Afghanistan near the city of Herat.
The survivors of the earthquake on Sunday were taken to a hospital in Jalalabad, which was overwhelmed by hundreds of patients before the catastrophe every day.
Zaman told me that he pulled his dead children out of the rubble.
“It was dark. There was no light. Someone gave me a lamp, and then I used a shovel and picked an ax to dig it out. There was no one who could help because everyone was affected. So many people died in my village. Some are still buried. Whole families have died,” he said.
The two and a half year wall suffered head injuries and blood losses.
“You can see his situation. It is so tragic. The earthquake was fatal. I want the doctors to treat him, heal him,” said the child’s uncle, Khawat Gul.
The recent earthquake met Afghanistan when it was severely drought and what the United Nations describes as an unprecedented crisis of hunger.
The country has also experienced massive help from the United States this year, which further reduces the help that many of these people could have. This catastrophe could not have come at a worse time.
British Foreign Minister David Lammy said that the help from Great Britain was headed “by experienced partners”, the UN population fund (UNFPA) and the International Red Cross.
India provided Kabul 1,000 tents, his Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar wrote about X after talking to his Taliban counterpart Amir Khan Muttaqi.
The Indian mission also helps to move 15 tons of Kabul to the province of Kunar, which was poorly hit by the earthquake, and added that India would send more auxiliary objects.
China and Switzerland have also promised support.
Survivors will need apartments, protection and ceilings, said Amy Martin, who heads the United Nations office for coordinating humanitarian matters (OCHA) in Afghanistan.
