Guilty verdicts in France mass rape trial “send a strong message”

A French court on Thursday found 51 men guilty of taking part in the mass rape of Gisèle Pelicot as part of decades of abuse at the hands of her ex-husband. Many of the men had denied the allegations against them, saying they believed Gisèle Pelicot had consented to the encounters even though she had been drugged unconscious. The guilty verdicts “send a strong message to say that none of these excuses hold water for a second,” said journalist Megan Clement, editor of the feminist Impact newsletter.
