Newly elected Republican Congressman Derek Schmidt told Fox News Digital that DOGE’s efforts will be crucial in the next Congress and explained why he is optimistic Republicans will be on the same page to prevail in January President-elect Trump Agenda.
““It’s not business as usual anymore,” Schmidt, who was elected to represent Kansas’ 2nd Congressional District in November, told Fox News about the impact of the newly formed Department of Government Efficiency led by Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy, as the two lobbied against a 1,500-page continuing resolution debated in the House that was rejected by some conservatives because it contained too much “pork.”
“Look, that was the most important message from voters last November. They want us to make progress on some of these issues, and we’re not going to make progress by continuing to do the same thing and expecting a different result.” So, you know, it’s going to be messy, but that’s what’s needed to get this country back on the right track.
Schmidt told Fox News Digital that DOGE reforms are part of what Trump is seeking.

“This is what President Trump promised. This is what many of us were hoping for. And that’s what I at least want to contribute to,” said Schmidt.
“So anything that helps put the genie back in the bottle, that helps move us back toward that federal system, that remarkable system of self-government that our founders gave us and that we’ve been drifting toward .” Especially since the New Deal, I want to help improve the situation. I want to leave this country better for my children than I found it, and that won’t be true unless we start getting out of control federal spending under control with a sprawling, grotesque federal bureaucracy that is unaccountable to voters .”
Despite a net loss of two seats in the 435-member House of Representatives in November, Republicans will hold a fragile 220-215 majority when the new Congress convenes next month, giving them a razor-thin margin for error as they try to advance Trump’s agenda .
Schmidt told Fox News Digital that he expects some “discord” in the next Congress, which he called “the nature of Democratic self-government,” but said he was confident Republicans would agree on the big issues.
“I think we will adopt the president’s agenda. See, I think a few things are true. First, to the extent that I have met my new classmates in the House of Representatives and to the extent that I have met them “In speaking with current members of the House of Representatives, there seems to be a general feeling that everyone knows that we have to deliver said Schmidt, who served as Kansas attorney general for more than a decade.
“We have this so-called trifecta that the voters gave us. They trusted us to do what we said we would do, and everyone, even though they may have different opinions, understands that we did. “We have to deliver, and that means we have to find ways to stick together .”
Schmidt continued: “Number two. What’s different now than a few times in the past when things were lined up is that we have a strong Republican president. President Trump did not compromise. He made the direction very clear in the campaign. “He wants to take over the country, the kind of policies he wants to implement, and the voters agree to that, not just with a win in the Electoral College, not just with a win for him the referendum, but also with the triple victory Help us achieve this We don’t have to find out what the agenda is. We must listen to what the voters said in electing President Trump, what he articulated on behalf of the voter. And we have to stick together and deliver results.”
After winning both Electoral College and the popular vote, Schmidt told Fox News Digital that it is clear that Trump has a “mandate” from the American people and that House Republicans understand that voters will not be happy with gridlock in Congress.
“I think voters knew what they were deciding on and they made that decision and I also think it’s very important to maintain what I think is the most important message, which is to do something and make progress on these issues achieve.” “said Schmidt.
“If we as an electorate don’t like it, if we don’t like what you’ve done, we’ll judge that in two, four, six years. But do something. This kind of stagnation, achieving very little,” is an unacceptable way to run the greatest nation in the world. And so I think that sense is widely accepted, at least by most of us who take public office, and we have the spirit of coming together and acting.”

Fox News Digital asked Schmidt what he was most looking forward to about his work in Congress, and he described his excitement about taking part in what he called an “extraordinary experiment” in American governance.
“I don’t want to sound like Mr. Smith is going to Washington, but there is some truth in the idea that each of us who gets to represent a group of Americans has the opportunity to be part of this extraordinary one self-government experiment that, despite all its weaknesses and shortcomings, is still ongoing,” said Schmidt.
“Many people who came before us have paid a high price and great personal expense to make this country what it is today. We have the opportunity, those of us who serve, myself included, to be part of rewriting or writing the next chapter.” American History. And every morning I rejoice that whether my service in public office ends, whether in two years, in ten years or sometime later, I want to look back and say: I made the difference. I left America better than I found it. Few people have this opportunity and a direct path. I will never lose sight of what has been entrusted to me.
