Garnacho wins the Puskas Award for his impressive overhead kick against Everton
He is only the second Argentine player to receive the award, after Erik Lamela, who won in 2021 for his memorable Rabona goal for Tottenham in the north London derby against Arsenal.
Garnacho’s spectacular goal came in the third minute of United’s 3-0 win over Everton at Goodison Park and unsurprisingly secured the goal of the season for both Manchester United and the Premier League in the 2023-24 season.
His goal has now been officially recognized as the best goal worldwide between August 2023 and August 2024.
The announcement was made by football legend Alessandro Del Piero during The Best FIFA Football Awards ceremony in Doha, Qatar.

Garnacho saw off big-name rivals including West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus, Aston Villa’s Jaden Philogene (for a goal he scored while on loan at Hull City) and Inter Milan’s Federico Dimarco.
A statement from Manchester United said: “Congratulations to Alejandro Garnacho on winning the 2024 FIFA Puskas Prize.”
“The Manchester United winger was recognized for the stunning, acrobatic save he achieved at Everton in November 2023.
“Well done to our No. 17 and thank you to everyone who supported him. It is a goal we will cherish for many years to come.”
The voting process for the Puskas Award involved both fans and a group of FIFA legends, ensuring Garnacho’s goal received the approval of some of football’s most famous figures.
This victory also puts Garnacho in line with his idol Cristiano Ronaldo, who was the first winner of the Puskas Award in 2009.
Ronaldo received the honor for his powerful long-range shot against FC Porto in the quarter-finals of the Champions League in the 2008/09 season.
Garnacho is only the second Manchester United player to receive this award.
