Fruit and vegetables: With 801 million euros, Morocco remains Spain’s leading supplier
Morocco maintains its place as the leading fruit and vegetable supplier to Spain. According to data from Fepex (Spanish Association of Fruit and Vegetable Exporters), the value of Spanish imports of fresh fruits and vegetables from third countries amounted to 2.69 billion euros from January to October 2024, representing 66% of total foreign purchases in this period Imports from the EU amounted to 1.39 billion euros or 34% of the total volume. Imports from third countries increased by 12% and imports from the EU by 13%.
Morocco continues to stand out in this group of supplier countries. The kingdom sold fruits and vegetables worth 801 million euros to its neighbor by October 2024, representing a growth of 13% compared to the same period last year. The Kingdom is well ahead of Peru, which exported a value of 501 million euros (+22%), and France (426 million euros, +22%).
Portugal is the fourth supplier to the national fruit and vegetable market, with 350 million euros and a growth of 19% compared to last year, and the Netherlands is the fifth and only major supplier of fruit and vegetables that has reduced its sales on the Spanish market, by 3%, a decrease to 205 million euros, according to the latest data updated by the Customs Authority up to October 2024.
The value of total fruit and vegetable imports to Spain up to October amounted to 4.08 billion euros, an increase of 12%. The volume amounted to 3.5 million tonnes, an increase of 7%. Fruit and vegetables from third countries amounted to 1.8 million tonnes and those from the EU to 1.7 million tonnes.
