Apple’s AirTags use this Find mine network to track pretty much anything you can stick them on, like car keys, Baggageor even a dog collar. Right now Amazon has one Pack of four for sale for $69.99 (originally $99), in line with the record low price Price checking tools. If you’re a Prime member, you’ll get them before Christmas.
AirTags are useful gadgets and their benefits also extend to your creativity. They are primarily marketed for wallets, keys, and travel bags, but there are also examples of people using them much more creative (The author of this Reddit post used it on his dog collar and trained it to come back whenever he pressed the play sound function.) It works by using Apple’s network of iOS devices to to create a Bluetooth network. Essentially, every person with an iPhone (or iPad) is part of this iOS network, and as long as one of those people is within Bluetooth range of your AirTag, they will appear in your Find My app.
As you can see further PCMag’s “excellent” review In addition to the AirTag, the Find My app has a screen that, like a compass, shows you the direction of your AirTag, including how far it is from you. There’s also the option to play a sound, which is perfect for finding a remote control buried under the couch, for example.
Once you are more than 30 feet away from your phone, iOS users’ network will be activated. If the AirTag is below this range, it will use your own Bluetooth. There are security measures set by Apple, including end-to-end encryption, so no one but you (not even Apple) knows where your AirTag is. The batteries last about a year and are replaceable. In contrast to the competition, there are no monthly fees for this Tile for Android users.
