FEZ – Today the city of Fez organized the annual Fez Spiritual Marathon, a celebration of fitness and community spirit.
The early morning started rainy, but that was not affected by the excitement of the runners when they took the variety on the starting line.
The event started at 8:00 a.m. at the Rond-Punkt-Bab-Chems with the marathon and then at 9:15 a.m. for the half marathon and the 10 km. Participants from different age groups and backgrounds came from all over Morocco and the world to walk through the historic streets of Fez.
The marathon showed three main races: the full marathon (42.195 km), the half marathon (21.1 km) and a 10 km race.
When the route and even the streets of Fez El-Bali were surrounded, every race offered runners the opportunity to experience the rich culture and the breathtaking architecture of the city.
The courses were developed to present the old medina, markets and beautiful Moroccan buildings from FeZ and offer the runners a unique Moroccan setting.

Marathon
In the men’s “Full Marathon” category, Azzeddine Feraoun came from Morocco with a chip time of 2 hours, 18 minutes and 53 seconds.
He followed exactly from Hicham Sadouq (2:18:54), also from Morocco and Erick Ndiema Leon (2:20:13) from Kenya in third place.
In the category of women in full marathon, Senbete Gelane -Bulbula from Ethiopia took a chip time of 2:39:04.
She followed by Phillarts Jepkemot Yego (2:49:15) from Kenya and Aziza El Amrany (2:49:49), which represented Morocco.
Semi marathon
In the Semi-Marathon Male category, Meshack Kimutai from Kenya came to the first place with a chip period of 1 hour, 5 minutes and 17 seconds. He followed Mounir El Ouali (1:05:44) and said Ben Akka (1:08:45), both represent Morocco.
In the category semi-marathon women, Irene Chepchirchir Korir from Kenya stood with a chip period of 1 hour, 15 minutes and 31 seconds. They followed Moroccan athletes Kaltoum Bouassrai (1:15:37) and Sana Achahbat (1:16:18).
10 km
Moroccan athletes triumphed in the 10 km category and took the three best places for the categories of men and women.
For the men, Jamal Hitran led the pack with a chip time of 29 minutes and 10 seconds, followed by Aziz Hemmani (29:16) and Anass Zerraqui (29:27).
For the category of women, Hajar El Haddioui with a chip time of 35:23 was first place, followed by Aya El Fathi (37:56) and Asmae Mrini (38:06).
A really Moroccan breed
The competition was violent and the athletes pushed their limits to achieve personal best. The event was not limited to Elite runners. It welcomed participants of all ages and skills.
Older people, women, children and middle -aged runners all took part and embodied the integrative spirit of the marathon.
Families ran with their friends and even their dogs when everyone encouraged themselves and creating a supportive and festive atmosphere.
The runners navigated in the winding streets of the city, which were fired by enthusiastic spectators who lined the routes.
Local Amazigh musicians and Issawa actors added the lively ambience and celebrated the merger of sportiness and culture.
The Fez Spiritual Marathon organized by Dila Athlétique aims to promote health, unity and the rich legacy of FeZ.
The event showed the commitment of the historic city to promote the commitment of the community through sport.
The participants praised the well -organized breed, scenic routes and the warm hospitality of the locals.
When the day ended, the top finisher was recognized in a award ceremony in every category with the special presence of the Moroccan Olympic master Soufiane El Bakkali, who passed out the prizes to the winners.
In addition to prices, however, the integrative atmosphere of the marathon celebrated the collective performance of everyone who took part and made everyone a champion in their own way.
