Welcome to “Cookbook of the week.This is a series in which I emphasize cookbooks that are unique, easy to use or only something special for me. While finding a certain recipe online fulfills a short purpose online, leafing through a really excellent cookbook has its own magic.
I have reached a condition of the food that I will call “deep winter”. I know that there are many colder environments in the world, but my weak constitution of New York City makes it impossible to have fun in 20 degrees. I prefer to stay inside, comment on the snow like a progressive commercial and cook hot comforts. If you share one of these inclinations, I have a great cookbook for you: Repair me a plate.
A little bit about the book
Repair me a plate is a collection of soul feed recipes, both prepared and dishes with a turn. This cookbook comes to us from chef Scotty Scott and was released in 2022. It reads like a cookbook like a personal report about how Scott became a cook and his family history with some dishes. I know that personal stories should “hang” us, but damn it, it just works. I am thrilled. Probably because we all have a special story with different meals and many of us can refer to the feeling of choosing a career path and later recognizing that we might feed our creative side.
This book contains 60 recipes, from side dishes to sweets, and everyone is written with a refreshing dose of Scott’s personality. Many cookbooks take over the air from something official or the specified scientific approach. I love that and there is a place for that. Cooking is also a joyful activity with which you can create yourself. Repair me a plate It’s fun to read and it feels like a friend teaches them his recipes. There is space for substitutions and wobbly room with spices. It is as if the boss is unemployed for the day: you do your work, but you can also talk to your buddy a little longer.
A great cookbook for hearty food
Every recipe in this book looks like I could simply split into my arms and sleep -from chicken and brown butter -sweet potatoes to slow and low red beans and rice. This is not a “diet” cookbook. There is no leaf green salad in sight. Nothing is petite here and I like it.
The last thing I want is is a slight meal where I look for a snack 20 minutes later. This is the cookbook that you grab when your family is grumpy or your weekend plans are ruined. It is the one you grab when you have something or someone to celebrate or, to the hell, if you want to feel full. It works for me in my current state of deep winter because I can only long for soups, pots, mighty hearty meat, beans and cheeky vegetables. Oh, and I almost forgot – carb. Only a few things are as tasty for me as noodles, bread, grits, potatoes or rice with a kind of sauce. Repair me a plate has everything.
Scott does not eat independent eggs as an additional advantage (and certainly unexpectedly when it was published in 2022). You will not miss a breakfast back, omeletts or quiche recipes here due to egg prices. Of course there are recipes in which eggs are mixed, but it holds them to a minimum. The dish I did this week

I have a bag of shrimp in my freezer this week (it’s part of mine Cheap shopping list for the food) So I decided on the blackened shrimp and the fried polenta recipe from the soul -Remix chapter. It was not the simplest recipes that I could have chosen – there are several components with polenta, chopped vegetables and shrimp – but it was absolutely worth the effort.
I guess how Scott organizes the list of ingredients in separate sections when the recipe contains several parts that you often carry out. Some cookbooks have only a long -standing list, but it is less overwhelming to see what I need for the polenta that is separated from the shrimp component.
Many of the recipes, including this, encourage them to use spices and small amounts of fresh and dried ingredients. The shrimp sauce uses a mixture of dried spices, dried herbs, aromatics and shrimp stocks – Shrimp stock, for which Scott contains a recipe in the sauce and spice department. I made my shrimp stock a little different, but me act Do it myself after I have described my shrimp and what an incredible difference it made. Each ingredient deliberately layers taste and flavors. So if she finally crouches down, everyone has a bite of a robust taste.
I had to prevent myself from doing the Mediterranean cookies with spicy sausage cream (I had just made a loaf of Irish soda bread So I had to concentrate), but it is next on my list.

Repair me a plate is online or as available in soft cover an eBook at a great price. But you know me: I would rather go to a large, old, wonderfully dusty bookstore.
