Morocco and Mauritania signed a memorandum of understanding in Rabat on Thursday aimed at strengthening their cooperation in the electricity and renewable energy sectors. This agreement, initialed by the Moroccan Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, Leila Benali, and her Mauritanian counterpart, Mohamed Ould Khaled, represents an important step in the development of joint projects, in particular the electrification of rural areas and the harmonization of electrical standards.
The agreement also provides for the exchange of expertise and technologies and the establishment of joint training programs to strengthen human capabilities. The aim is to contribute to the energy security of both countries by diversifying supply sources and exploring the possibility of an electrical connection to stabilize the networks and optimize supplies.
At this meeting, ministers discussed important strategic projects, in particular the Morocco-Nigeria gas pipeline and initiatives related to new energies, including green hydrogen. They emphasized the importance of a sustainable and mutually beneficial partnership and positioned Africa as a key player in the global energy transition.
The meeting was attended by several senior officials from both countries, including the directors of institutions responsible for electricity and renewable energy. This collaboration is part of a shared vision focused on sustainable development and strengthening bilateral relations for the benefit of both nations.
