I finally came back in electrical assist mode. This turned out that it was quite a odyssey. I followed two parallel approaches. First I tried to repair the wheel broken spokes It turns out that you can get user -defined spoke lengths online so that I have received a replacement in 228 mm. Then I exchanged the five broken spokes with new ones and tried to tighten them by feeling so that they agreed to their neighbors. The bike seemed pretty true, so I took it with me to try it out. It was bad out of the round, which means that there was a very noticeable up and down of the front wheel. So I took the bike to my local bicycle business. They could not repair it because they found that there was a permanent bend to the edge that caused a flat spot. Remember that I first discovered 5 broken spokes at the same time. Whatever I did, like a really bad pothole that jumped up the 5 spokes, must also have bent the edge.

So the wheel must be rebuilt. You do not do this in my local business, so hardly me for a custom -made cyclist. Alternatively, I was able to get an inexpensive stand and a new edge and rebuild the wheel myself. This does not look too difficult for the standard “two-cross” method based on what I have read and seen in videos.

Fortunately, there was the parallel path. Last November the makers of my Ebike kit, Swytchbike Had a great sale in your kits. I wanted to get some replacement batteries, and it turned out that a replacement kit with the sale was not more expensive than just getting the batteries, so I ordered one. When it arrived a few months later, I put its batteries into operation, the kit put aside. I finally got to adapt it to my lying one when I had the broken spoke problem. Unfortunately, the bike did not quite fit into the dropout slots on the bike. I contacted customer service and they told me that I was the return window out there (this happens when you wait two months before you actually try a product). Fortunately, I could only submit the wheel so that it fits into the dropouts (for which they had a short video). This turned out to be quite a lot of training. I think my right arm is larger than my left after submitting. It was very satisfactory when it finally fit.

The new bike worked like a champion that was connected to my existing controller. The only setting was to set the wheel size on the controller to 20 ″ instead of 26 inches. I took the bike for a test trip and it was delightful.

This corresponds to the configuration of my previous backlog, the 26-20 Bacchetta Giro. I had forgotten how comfortable it was. So that is my journey in the foreseeable future, although I will consider making the 26 -inch motorcycle rebuilt.
