A year ago my dear friend and relative, journalist Amna Homawas brutally killed together with her oldest child, Mahdi, 11. It was targeted by Israeli media after coordination against her.
I still remember the flood of grief and condolences that flow in and held the family in the first few days after their murder. International media turned to Amas husband. Articles on her murder and the conditions that were widespread in front of her spread. Social media crowded from posts to AMNA and her achievements, all with the same grieving tone.
In the meantime, the people who mourn for them were between grief, pride and guilt. Guilt to Israel, which she did not kill, nor in the world that made it possible to kill, but on Amas decision to exclude the fatal path of journalism in a country that was excluded from international law.
The grief finally faded. Amna was gradually forgotten, and no institution, no government has ever applied for an investigation of her murder. But what happened to her is no exception; It is the rule.
This will probably happen with journalists Hussam al-Masri, Mohammad Salama, Mariam Abu Daqqa, Ahmed Abu Aziz and Moaz Abu Taha, who were killed in the Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis today. The massacre now makes the headlines briefly, but will soon be forgotten how Amas was murder.
Although these journalists were protected civilians, they protected themselves in a medical facility that under humanitarian law has special protection, no Israel for what claims to hold an “mistake” into account, and nobody will examine it.
